Wondering what size cake boards you need?

If you're stacking cakes on top of each other, for a seamless look, you'll want to select a cake board that's the same size as the cake you're stacking. For example, if the top tier cake is 8 inches, you'll want an 8-inch cake board as your base for that cake. Because the edge of the cake will be sitting flush to the edge of the board, you'll need to use a spatula to lift the edge of the board so you can slip your hand underneath and lift the cake.

If you're serving a single cake, you'll probably want a cake board that's one to two inches bigger than your cake. This will allow enough room to add a frosting boarder and still leaves enough space for your fingers to lift the cake board and transfer your cake into a box. For example, if you're serving a 6-inch round cake, you'll want an 8-inch round cake board.
